Navy and Orange

Navy and Orange

Street style: Redheads in blue

No matter how real or bottled your red hair is, blue is and always will be a flattering color to go with it. Use it on tops, blouses, knits, sweaters, dresses and jackets. It will look great, I promise.

Even famous redheads like to wear different shades of blue

Jessica Chastain is stunning in this midnight blue dress at Shanghai film festival.

Too bad she didn't swap dresses with Karolina Kurkova, she would look so much better!

Natural redhead Marg Helgenberger looks great a powder blue sun dress.

Alyson Hannigan LOVES blue! Ok, she is wearing a dress, not a tunic over white jeans and her shoes are ugly, but the print is gorgeous and she looks very vibrant.

Blue seems to be her favorite color...

Yep, Alyson Hannigan looks good in blue!

Kate Walsh may be house-hunting in LA, but she does it in style and stripes.

Amy Adams looks good in a trendy maxi dress with denim jacket.

Last but not least, we have one redhead who would definitely benefit from a blue dress instead of a drab black dress. See the shiny red hair? See her vibrant skin? Carnie Wilson NEEDS a blue dress. Now. It will match the orange shoes and purse perfectly.

Navy Loves Pink

I fell under the spell of Pink and Navy color combination. It's just the right mix of feminine and masculine! The analogous colors look very preppy and I can easily add pink to my favorite nautical outfits.

Because I have plenty of striped shirts and jeans are usually blue, I love to shop for pink accessories. Purses, belts, scarves... you name it, I have it!

How to create your own Fashion Capsule

I have a friend named Meagan. She is the most awesome friend I can ask for, always making me laugh and teaching me new words. Anyways, Meagan was recently in need of some new clothes and since we live far, far away from each other - okay, maybe a couple of hours by car, but still pretty far, we couldn't possibly go shopping together. So to help her a little bit, I created a fashion capsule for her.
Are you familiar with the term capsule? According to Wikipedia, "the term has come to refer to a collection of clothing which is designed using only interchangeable items, in order to maximize the number of outfits which can be created. The aim is to have an outfit suitable for any occasion without owning excessive items of clothing. This is usually achieved by buying what are considered to be "key" or "staple" items in coordinating colors."
Perfect for people on the budget, with small closets, or just girls who don't like to spend their precious time in stores and rather get a couple of great pieces they can combine FOREVER.
It needs to fit your personality and lifestyle. Pick up a couple of key pieces, that you love and want to wear forever, and base your capsule around them. Meagan told me she was in love with a leather jacket and biker boots and because I know where she works, I was thinking rock business casual with basic skinny pants and edgy tops.

1. I suggested three pants, one more dressy, grey or shimmery black, maybe a little flared on the bottom for those days when she has to look more polished at work. Second pair would be black skinny pants that she can tuck in her motorcycle boots or wear with flats. Third pair are printed pants for casual Fridays or more whimsical days.
2. Combine these pants with printed tops, I would suggest one colorful, one black and one white. You can already wear each top with each of the pants.

3. Next step is to add a jacket, I like the faux leather or real leather motorcycle jacket to make it more fresh and young. I would also recommend a cotton blazer/cardigan/throw in neutral color. Now you can wear each outfit with each jacket/blazer!

3. Second round of outfits will be dress/longer tunic with printed leggings and motorcycle boots. The dress should be black/grey, so it will be the same color as your boots and you can experiment with different types of leggings, prints, colors, studs... You can totally be yourself with these clothes, customize the print on the leggings or the tops. For example, black dress with black cardigan and black boots can be worn with red plaid leggings, blue snakeskin leggings, black studded leggings... Leggings are generally cheaper to buy then the rest of the clothes so you can buy more for less. Two dresses and two printed leggings make four outfits, with switching the jackets you will get eight outfits.

4. Next, we have printed tops and leggings. Why not combine them with a simple black skirt? You can just buy a pair of simple black leggings, simple black hip hugging skirt and you are good to go! Each of your tops, either patterned one or solid color one will look good with black knee length skirt and leggings. Add ballet flats to soften the look or motorcycle boots to be a bad-ass chick! In the winter skirt and leggings are great for layering, since you can wear them with an array of wider looser sweaters and look edgy. Solid color tops with black skirt will also look good with patterned leggings.
5. If you want to go sexier, forget the leggings and wear the shirt with the skirt, add a jacket on top. Simple, yet effective.

In the end, you have three tops, one sweater, one jacket, three pairs of pants, two dresses, two leggings and one skirt. From thirteen pieces you can create more than 40 different outfits, from casual to formal, from polished business look for work to sexy. And the best part is - you can do all this without spending a dime :) Just look in your closet for things that you already own and create your own capsule. Mix and match colors and prints to get the most of them. Start simple and add items to your rotation. Usually, people wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time. Make the 20% count!

What to wear when working from home

Last month I started working from home full time and I was immediately faced with the dilemma of what to wear. What do people usually wear when they sit behind their computer in the comfort of their home, without the social stigma of coworkers staring at their loose sweatpants, stained shirt and hole-y socks? Loose sweatpants, stained shirt and hole-y socks. Exactly.
But I have a closet full of fabulous office clothes and I can't stop wearing them just because nobody else is seeing them, just me! So I need to pick the comfy ones, good fitting, stylish clothes and give them work from home feel that will be appropriate between four walls of my office, but also for a random run to the post office or grocery store.
You may be an insurance agent, accountant, writer, painter, day care provider, artist, have your own home based business or simply telecommute one or two days a week. But you still need to get up, make yourself a cup of coffee and work. Isn't it better looking good while doing it?

Outfit 1: Button downs and jeggings

I want to utilize my 15+ button downs and jeggings are the most comfortable yet appropriate pair of pants out there. With cute slippers and earrings I can work from home and look like million bucks.

Outfit 2: Stretchy pencil skirt and  T-shirt
I am so happy all my pencil skirts are from a stretchy cotton! They pair well with simple T-shirts or layered tank tops for a day spent in the home office.

Outfit 3: Lounge pants and tank top
The closest I can come to NOT wearing sweatpants or pajamas are harem pants and their cousin, lounge pants. Teamed with cute accessories and pop of color with pink cardigan I won't be afraid to open my front door to unexpected visitors anymore.

What do you wear when you work from home?

Redhead of the week: Geri Halliwell

Our Redhead of the week is the 90's icon and singer aka Ginger Spice! Who doesn't remember Spice Girls? I always "wanted" to be Geri, and mostly because of her red hair.
Geri Halliwell was born as a natural redhead and her bright shiny red hair brought her to fame! I can't imagine Spice Girls without her spunky personality, big smile and red hair. However, Geri is gravitating towards blond hair and the older she is, the blonder is her hair. I was still able to find some vintage snaps of the most popular redhead of the nineties and look at the way how she used to dress.

Geri was most seen in black. As a natural spring, black is not a good color on such a pale redhead as the popular songstress is. However, the further it is from her face, the better.

YES!
Rawr! Voluptuous, vibrant, fresh and young.

NO!
This picture was taken about 20 years ago and Geri definitely does not look like a hot redhead, but like a tired French intellectual smoking way to many cigarettes. There is nothing wrong with being French or intellectual, but if you are a vibrant redhead, then you need to be the colorful life of the party, not the forgotten wallflower! Red hair was meant to stand out :)

Ginger Spice didn't get her name for nothing and with her love for red, sparkles and Union Jack she successfully proved that redheads CAN most definitely wear red.

YES!

Her blue eyes are stunning in pale shades of blue, purple and pink. You can see it more clearly when her hair is blonde, Geri looks younger and vibrant when wearing these colors. However, they also suited her when she wore her mane bright red - nineties makeup included!

YES!

Almost immediately after leaving Spice Girls Geri changed her life, and her hair color followed soon afterwards. I must say I miss her beautiful red locks, but she is still one of my favorite redheads ever :)

June brings EVEN more Redheads

Red is truly the most popular hair color this summer! After four Hollywood ladies turned their tresses earlier in April, months of May and June did not fall behind and brought their own crop of gorgeous red hair.

I am really excited to see Christina Milian as a redhead. It's hard to be a woman of color and try to experiment with your hair, you have to be super careful so you won't end up like Beyonce back in 2001 with overly bleached hair. But red is a different story. Tyra Banks, Rihanna, even Janet Jackson looked great with red hair and Christina belongs right with them.

Carly Rae Jepsen said on her Instagram that she always wanted to go red - and she did, in May! I'm totally loving the change and I wish she would show it off more in public. I always thought her dark hair with long bangs looked severe and heavy on her, and the vibrant shade of red seems to be a good fit! You go, redheaded girl :)

Evangeline Lilly is a feisty elf! I am not a Tolkien fan, but I love seeing redheads everywhere. To star in an upcoming movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as and elf named Tauriel, Evangeline changed her formerly brown hair to a coppery shade of red. I don't know why is her hair color so uneven and patchy, but I appreciate her outfit in various shades of green and brown.

Who is your favorite new redhead?

Let's go Nautical

I always wanted to meet Coco Chanel, because her take of nautical style was the best. She introduced it to the world in 1917 and transformed a simple design to a chic fashion statement.
I haven't met a Redhead that would not look good in nautical style. Navy blue, white, red, yellow and green (yes, all these colors) simply look great on anyone with red hair! Nautical style, however, doesn't only mean stripes and little anchors, nautical style is fresh, stylish, chic and feminine. With a minimal effort you can look like million bucks. All aboard!

This is Amber, an awesome Redhead blogger from UK.

The absolute necessity in nautical style are Breton stripes - you know, the navy blue stripes on white fabric. Known to the world since 1858, when they became part of official uniform of French Navy in Brittany, the original Breton striped design featured exactly 21 stripes on a shirt, one for each of Napoleon victories. The stripes were also lifesavers, when a man fell overboard, he was easier to spot among the waves. Now you can wear them any way you want, thin or thick, on shirts, sweaters, skirts or shorts.

Navy blue and white will look great with red hair, either natural or colored.

You don't have to swim a nautical mile to find a proper pair of pants to wear with white and blue striped shirt. Anything from jeans to black or grey pants will work out, you can also try red skirt or shorts, pair of crisp white pants or simple black A-line skirt. The awesome thing about nautical style is that you can make it all you. If you don't feel comfortable wearing shorts, you don't have to. You can wear a pair of black pants and still feel stylish and chic. At least Coco Chanel did...

Anything with side buttons or high waist works for this always chic style as well.

I love to experiment with the colors on the bottom. Navy blue, red, white, emerald and yellow look great with nautical striped shirt and carefully chosen accessories. I absolutely love anything red, but golden accents, rope and sea themed jewelry works too.

I know that I am wearing the same skirt, because all my pictures in grey pants, jeans and red shorts are too blurry or too weird! Not like this are the best quality either, but I guess a redhead picture is what counts!

And when in doubt, nautical accessories are always a great way how to start.
