Red hair can get you suspended from high school

Being a redhead is a way of life.

The decision to dye your hair red is never a spur of the moment decision, it's rarely a fashion statement or something you pick from a glossy page of a magazine and show your hairdresser to do simply because it's trendy.
No, to change your hair from whatever it was before to red means to change your life. It means you are daring, adventurous and you feel like the flame on your head belongs to your life. And this form of self-expression, when you decide to dye your hair to better match your personality, can get you suspended from high school.

What???

Daily Mail is reporting about Florida High School student Mabry Anderson who got the boot from her high school because she dared to color her hair an "unnatural" hair color. "The school district changed the policy two years ago to say students had to have their natural hair color," the article is reporting. And just because red is not considered a natural hair color, Mabry had only two choices - to bring her hair back to her natural state or not to come to school.

As a bottled Redhead I am outraged. Who decided that red hair is not natural? Who decided that only natural hair color is acceptable in high school? Who decided that just because you are underaged, you are not able to express your personality and dye your hair whatever color you want? And who is walking around the school yard checking all the blonde girls and girls with highlight and ombre hair and telling them their hair is not natural and they have to be suspended as well?
Isn't Mabry just beautiful with her vibrant red hair?
Fortunately, Mabry is allowed to go back to school even with red hair and she is now fighting to change the district policy. You can support her at her Facebook Page Team Mabry. It's a cause definitely worth supporting!

XOXO,
The European Redhead
