High fashion, low prices: Eyelet dresses

One of the 2013 fashion trends I am really excited about are the eyelet dresses. I already got one last year, a pretty white number, that I wore quite a lot. I didn't see many of the in the stores and I got really giddy when I saw the spring fashion in stores - all of them featuring one or more eyelet dresses!

It started with high fashion shows in 2011, Louis Vuitton RTW for Spring 2012 was full of eyelet dresses, skirts, pants and bags. It slowly found it's way to the stores in mall and finally, this year, to ALL stores. Here is the original idea courtesy of Marc Jacobs, creative director of Louis Vuitton.

Gorgeous, right? But yeah, I don't have $2000 to spend on it either.

So here is a cheaper option for less than one tenth of the price. This cute pink number at JCrew is $188. They have another one with straps, just in case strapless in not your style. Bebe has a fitted white eyelet dress for $149 and Kohl's has a gorgeous crochet eyelet shift dress for $120.
But it's still too much. I want something for under $50. Or under $20. I like high fashion, but with low prices. So what are my options?

Eyelet dresses under $50

Kohl's

I love love love this Lily Rose Eyelet dress (on sale for $45.99) from Kohl's. Corset top, polka dot eyelets and the white/green fabric is simply adorable.

Another, slightly more daring pick is City Triangles Eyelet dress (on sale for $45.99) with a cutout in the back!

Eyelet dresses under $40

JCP

JCPenney has a LOT of eyelet dresses, almost all of them under $40! This one one is a Belted Keyhole Eyelet dress for $40, totally adorable and affordable. It comes only in white, however. For a little pop of color head over to the peach Cap-Sleeve Eyelet Dress with bow belt for $28 or a coral Strapless Eyelet dress for $30.

The emerald Liz Claiborne sheath is my favorite. It also comes in white, but redheads will most definitely look the best in green! I love the classic shape with the modern twist.

Eyelet dresses under $30

Forever 21

Cute, simple, belted, pleated, sleeveless - perfect summer dress from Forever 21 JUST under $30. In cream color. Totally looks like the one I already have from last year.

Old Navy

Old Navy honestly has the best selection of eyelet dresses EVER. They come with straps or strapless, in 10 different colors (white, black, blue, navy blue, green, yellow, pink, teal, orange and red) and they are all super adorable and cheap! Their price depends on color and style, and if you use promocode THANKYOU until 4/1, they will be 30 percent off!

Eyelet dresses under $20

Walmart

Walmart fashion is sometimes pretty on spot and this George belted sheath is one of the great examples. For only $17.94 you can get in all three colors (black with yellow belt, red with black belt and white with red belt) and wear them all year long.

Redhead of the week: Emma Stone

Emma Stone is my absolutely favorite redhead. She is naturally a blonde, but she looks extremely stunning as a redhead. I’m pretty sure her symmetric facial features have something to do with it, but her makeup is always on point and she seems to transition seamlessly between her red hair and natural blond hair and respective wardrobe color choices going with each hair color.

As a decided redhead I can definitely relate to Emma, because her shade of red is almost the same as mine. Sometimes I even feel like we are secret hair sisters! (Just kidding. But Emma is really beautiful.)
Although I’m pretty sure she had some professional help achieving her great looks ;)

Let’s look at Emma in all the colors out there. Which ones are your favorites?

Despite having red hair, Emma seems to prefer red and purple dresses.

It’s really hard to find a picture of Emma in gray, yellow, pink or brown. She knows these colors wash her out, so she sticks to cool tones of green, blue and white. It's really hard to find her picture in a true yellow or orange dress. I don't think she even owns anything in those colors!

NO!

YES!

Emma looks gorgeous in black, but her makeup is always a little bit stronger than in other colors.

I love the makeup she is using, she is not afraid of colorful eyeliner, fuchsia lip or bold red lipstick.

I love to wear jewel tones like Emma too. I definitely look up to her on red carpet to see what looks is she coming up with, there is nothing better than a Decided Redhead looking stunning in a gorgeous dress!

What did I wear (First week of March)

I usually post my daily outfit on Instagram (follow me at @european_redhead), so this my recap of the six or seven outfits of the day I wore the first week of March.

On Saturday we went to eat Chinese so I wanted to be comfy... but comfy in my mind does NOT equal jeans. Dark hunter green pants with a crisp white blouse? More like it!

I got this birdie printed tunic at Goodwill, and I absolutely adore the tiny little birds. I can't wait for warmer weather so I can wear it just with red shorts or just by itself.

I unfortunately don't have a picture of my outfit from Sunday, when we went to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, so my Polyvore recreation will do. I got my gorgeous american flag print scarf at Love Culture and it totally looks like the $228 one from Barneys. What a steal!

And since the weather seems a lot nicer lately, it was time for some pink!

I combined my very office worthy New York and Company cream cape with thrifted snake print blouse and $4 Wet Seal turquoise jeans. Because mixing high end with low end items for me means one dollar shirt with four dollar jeans!

Trial and error with colors for Redheads

I used to dress exclusively in black. It was my color for many years, in stores I instinctively headed towards the black section and picked clothes in many different shades of black, if that’s even possible. I believed that black accentuates my red hair and my fair skin… when in fact I looked dead, washed out and paler than a Snow white. Black was not my friend, as I found out, and I desperately needed color.

But which one to choose?

I started to study the theory of colors. Their shades, meanings, combinations. Redheads generally look great in greens, blues and purples. And they should never wear pink. Or red.

Right? Wrong!

Jessica Rabbit looks stunning in her red sparkly dress and every time I see a redhead in blue, I cringe. It really depends on individual coloring to determine, which color suits one best. I have my preferences and I have a list of my enemies.
If you find your colors and you start using them correctly, your life will truly change. Your face will get brighter, your hair will get shinier and your confidence will rise. Did you ever try something on in the dressing room and you just felt like a whole new person? This is what color does to you.

Let’s go explore together.

Casual Friday

Casual Friday

TIBI / Salvatore Ferragamo linen jacket / J Brand skinny jeans / Rupert Sanderson shoes / Michael Kors handbag / Beaded necklace, $49

Let's get started

I love clothes. I breathe clothes. I always pick my outfits days before I am actually going to wear them and I have spent many hours in my closet playing with my clothes, matching and combining them. I love fashion blogs and I always look at Pinterest, Polyvore or Lookbook for fashion inspiration. But there is something special about me that make it really hard to find some REAL fashion inspiration.

I am a REDHEAD.

I dyed my hair red for the first time when I was 16 and I felt like I was finally a whole person, the person I was always meant to be, a Redhead. I am a decided redhead, doll with dye and I am proud to rock my bright red hair.
But I can’t wear all the colors I want. Because I am a decided Redhead, colors that suit best my coloring will just. not. do. with my red hair. So I am exploring, trying and picking the best shades. I look great in green, and I look horrible in beige. I love wearing black, but for some reason I look better in brown.
I also can’t wear all the clothes I want. I may be curvy at all the right places, but that doesn't make it easy to wear crop tops, skinny jeans or shiny liquid-y fabrics. And all the fashion bloggers I would love to follow are skinny willowy girls with waist long ombre hair and penchant for bra tops, minuscule skirts and name brand platform shoes. All redheads are either pin up models with clothes that look gorgeous in the pictures, but not really usable for real life. And I’m struggling to find someone like me with bright red hair, but more Chanel-esque taste for fashion.
I have been experimenting with fashion for redheads for almost 10 years. I am an European Redhead living in California and this is my take on fashion for redheads.
You are welcome.
